30 junio Can You Start Sentences With "And" or "But"?I found this interesting article the other day about whether or not it is grammatically correct to start sentences with "and" or "but". Why is this interesting? It's intereting because I often do that. There is an ancient rule about it. But, sometimes it seems necessary to start a sentence with either and or but "for emphasis".
Growing up I wasn't a rule breaker. So, an ocassional "and" or "but" sprinkled here and there in my writing, at the beginning of sentences, is my way of rebelling.
Rebelling against what, "You ask?" Don't know. It's one of those days. Goofy days. Just overlook the braindrip, please.
Here is the link to the complete article. It is actually www.dailywritingtips.com. But, the precentages tagged on the end gets you to the exact page without having to search for it.
28 junio What I Wanted Wasn't What I Got!I wanted a puppy for a long time, I knew exactly what kind. I wanted a lethargic listless little wimp of a puppy for a companion. See, I’m what I refer to as patient and deliberate. I wanted a lazy puppy that would lay around on the floor under the table by my feet and be nice quite and obedient. I wanted one that would sit on the couch and watch television or just look at me and be still while I sew or read or work. That’s what I wanted.
That wasn’t what I got though. Instead I got ReeSee! ReeSee was a wildly busy constant blur of motion, always jumping running and lunging at any and everything at every opportunity. ReeSee was hyper-energetic, wildly out-of-control whenever she heard me coming to open the back gate at mealtime or exercise time.
The minute I turned the corner jingling the gate keys she’d start her “ReeSee-ReeSee-Freeway” dance, her front feet rapidly scratching at the gate on her side of the fence while her little back feet move restlessly to the beat of a mysteriously silent tune, tail wagging from side-to-side in rhythm to the movement of her feet - panting like there’s no tomorrow.
As soon as the key hits the lock, her nose darts down toward the crack at the bottom of the gate, as if to squeeze herself through the tiny opening before I can get it open for her.
My ReeSee - the frisky little whirlwind of endless energy instead of the lazy little no personality dog I thought I wanted.

Shankle 26 junio Before Dell GirlMeet - Dell Girl's Daddy Born July 25 He was six feet tall in his stocking feet with an inch or two to spare, like coffee laced with whipping cream, his skin it was so fair . . . Now that Daddy's gone I know the lessons that he left, everything he taught me makes me be my better self . . * * * * * Oops! I'm giving away part of my book, At The Starting Gate. This is Daddy, that's Mama's hand on his shoulder. More about her and them together another time. One thing I learned while writing my book, take it a little bit at a time. Too much is overwhelming and things get left unfinished. When I tackle a project in manageable pieces, it is more likely to get finished. Until later, dellgirl 25 junio Blog Posting ScheduleI've worked out a tentative schedule for posting to my various blogs in order to stay focused and be productive at the same time. It is subject to change, but for now, it is a blueprint for my blogging week. Currently, my sites are:
Tentative posting schedule:
At A Glance:
Mon & Thur - SGB
Tue & Fri - Fun
Wed & Sat - Spaces
I'll wait and see how this works for me. In the meantime, if something comes to mind to post at a time other than the scheduled time, I suppose I can do that.
Until later, 23 junio Go Figure, For RealOne bright sunny day last week I set out to explain something I had learned the hardway - through trial and error - How To HyperLink a Picture to Another Source. I did this over at my other blog At The Starting Gate. *See Friday June 20, 2008 Post. All in all, I thought I had done a pretty good job of putting it into everyday language, words everyday people like me could understand, relate to, and then apply the knowledge when needed.
Later the same day something popped up on my computer about the same subject. It appears Blogger has or had a beta test for it. I thought that interesting and clicked over to investigate. Maybe their explanation of how to hyperlink would be better than mine.
Well, the results are in. Here is their information, only it is about adding a graphic to your blog header. Not the same exactly but worth looking into.
I won't ask anybody for feed back on how hard or how easy their instructions were. Nobody reads my bog anyway, except me, Tracey, and JoAnn. But it would be interesting because I couldn't understand much of what was said. Too much going on in the side bars for me to stay focused too.
Check it for yourself. Anyway, there it is. Or, is it here it is?

Until next time. 05 junio Another Creative AsideIt's been a very busy past several days. Everything from bill paying time to needing to make another creative project I hadn't expected. This time it was a Blanket & Pillow set for a special friend. My daughter asked Monday night if I could make it and have it ready for Wednesday. My slow hesitant barely audible, "Yes", didn't dampen her spirit at all. It was full-speed ahead. Well, here is the project in its development stage. Although it might not seem like much here, the process is in progress. The final product will tell the tale. 03 junio Get'ter Done - MondayAlthough the past week has been rather hectic, today proved more so that all of last week. So many irons in the fire, so much to do - all important and urgent. The most time consuming of the lot is "bill paying". Even with the system I've worked out, it still takes more time to pay bills than I like. I'll explain the complete system another time but, first I want to share the spreadsheet I developed using Microsoft Excel. It can be as long or as short as your list of bills. Here is my sample bill paying spreadsheet.
This chart makes bill paying a whole lot easier. |
